The research and development achievements of Wang Yulan, a senior engineer of nuclear energy and new energy technology research institute, led the team.

Reporter: can you introduce the principle of fog and haze curtain developed by your team?

Wang Yulan: the most important material of this kind of window screen is a layer of film, called "nuclear pore membrane". The image is that there are a large number of micron holes in a thin plastic film.

The density of these micropores is very high, one square centimeter, that is, the size of a nail cover, and there are hundreds of thousands of micropores.

Moreover, these micropores are straight through holes and penetrate membrane materials.

Some special chemical properties of the hole wall make the wall and surface of the membrane have static electricity.

We know that PM2.5 is a general term for particles of aerodynamic equivalent diameter of less than 2.5 microns. These particles are suspended in the air, and when they pass through the membrane material, they will be adsorbed on the wall of the hole under the action of static electricity.

Reporter: what is the effect of fog prevention and haze?

Wang Yulan: the effect is related to the specific parameters of the membrane. For example, under certain parameters, 100% fog and haze can be achieved. When changing to another parameter, the fog and haze effect is 98%.

These parameters are mainly micropore size and chemical properties of materials, which can be controlled artificially.

In commercial applications, the pore size of micropores can be controlled from 10 nm to tens of microns.

Reporter: when it comes to "nuclear pore membrane", ordinary people will always associate with nuclear radiation. How about the safety, breathability and durability of this membrane?

Wang Yulan: there is no problem in safety. Nuclear membrane and nuclear radiation are two concepts.

The nuclear membrane accelerates the nucleus to high energy and then bombardment the thin film. The nucleus is not radionuclide, and no radioactive residue is produced after penetrating the thin film.

On the strict side, we monitored and evaluated the radiation of the membrane, and concluded that it is safe.

This membrane is also an auxiliary material for three kinds of medical devices. It is absolutely safe through biological toxicity monitoring.

The diameter of our pores is generally a few microns, while the diameter of gas molecules is usually 0.4 nanometers, much smaller than the pore size, so there is no problem of air permeability.

The chemical stability of this film is very good. Under ideal conditions, it will not be a problem for 10 years, but after all, it is pasted on the windows for everyday use, so we added a gauze outside to improve durability.

Reporter: is this kind of fog and haze screen produced? What is the cost range?

Wang Yulan: now there are enterprise applications, but the mass production of screen windows also needs to solve some commercial problems with cooperative enterprises.

In the laboratory, the aperture and pass accuracy of a film are controlled very well. There is no problem. But in order to maintain high quality aperture and pass accuracy in the production of millions of square meters, many technical problems need to be solved.

Regarding cost, we should also consider output, scale, late stage composite and reinforcement.

Reporter: what other breakthroughs are needed in this project?

Wang Yulan: I have been engaged in nuclear pore membrane technology for many years, but the technology used to prevent fog and haze is accidental.

Once I saw a joke on the Internet and realized that fog and haze were really unavoidable problems for our ordinary people.

I think at the technical level, we should further optimize the process, reduce the cost, solve the engineering problems, and popularize the application as soon as possible so that people can benefit from it.

A company has also launched anti fog haze curtain, I wonder if you have concerns?

Wang Yulan: some friends got samples from German products and gave some feedback to us.

In terms of efficiency against PM2.5, our technology is far superior to that of Germany.

As for air permeability and light pmittance, I can't evaluate it because I haven't seen anything in it.

I think different technologies can solve problems at different levels, each has its own advantages and disadvantages.
